My child is on awaitlist for OT, will this program be beneficial for us?
Absolutely! The Ready for Yoga Program is designed to help children develop key skills from a brain-body connection approach, including co-regulation and self-regulation, motor skills, executive functioning, mindfulness, sensory processing, and social engagement— all of which are foundational to many occupational therapy goals. While you wait for OT services, this program provides you with valuable tools and insights as your child’s support person, empowering you both to learn, grow, and flourish together.
My child is currently already accessing OT, can we still use it?
Yes! The Ready for Yoga Program complements occupational therapy interventions. It offers additional routine and home-based strategies for your child to practice outside of their sessions, reinforcing skills they may be working on with their therapist, such as body awareness, emotional
regulation, and sensory processing. If you are currently working with an OT, we suggest you touch base with them so they can guide you on the chapters you
could focus on to support the child’s current therapy goals.
I don’t know the specific goals my child or the child I am supporting (as a support worker, carer, or educator) needs to work on, will the Ready for Yoga still be useful?
Definitely! The Ready for Yoga Program focuses on essential skills that can benefit all children. Whether or not you know the specific therapy or skill area goals for the child, this program can help facilitate fun, joy, and connection between you and the child you are supporting. In the Facilitator Guide, we have provided information on how to modify an activity depending on the child’s individual differences so you can adapt the activities or strategies based on the child’s engagement in the activity or game.
It’s a great starting point for supporting a child’s overall well-being.
